Please read carefully the following terms and conditions for participation in SPARTATHLON 2025.
Full acceptance of these terms entitles you to access the online application form.

Any other information from another medium or person is not accepted.
1. CHAPTER
TERMS OF PARTICIPATION
The right to participate in SPARTATHLON 2025 have only experienced Athletes, that are over the age of 18.
Participants assume full and personal responsibility for their state of health before and during the race.
Each participant must have previously applied to participate and must received official acceptance from the INTERNATIONAL SPARTATHLON ASSOCIATION (ISA).
Directives and guidance can be given to participants only by the International SPARTATHLON Association Secretariat. The adherence to the rules, advice and instructions, which contained in this notice, constitute a strict obligation on the part of the participating Athlete, and failure to comply with them is a cause of disqualification.
2. CHAPTER
The right to apply for participation in SPARTATHLON 2025 race is open to Athletes who meet at least one of the following conditions (CRITERIA):
INTERNATIONAL RACES
a) Have covered the distance of at least 120 km for men or 110 km for women in a 12-hour race.
b) Have completed a 120 km race. within 12 hours for both men and women.
c) Finish the 100-mile race within 21:00 hours for men or 22:00 hours for women.
d) Finish the Western States 100-mile race within 24:00 hours for men or 25:00 hours for women.
e) Have covered the distance of at least 180 km for men or 170 km for women in a 24-hour race.
g) Have completed a 200-220 km non-stop race within 29:00 hours for men or 30:00 hours for women.
h) Have finished the UltraBalaton 211 km race within 29:00 hours for men or 30:00 hours for women.
i) Have completed a non-stop race of more than 220 km within 36:00 hours for men or 37:00 hours for women.
j) Finish the Badwater race within 39:00 hours for men or 40:00 hours for women.
k) Finish the Grand Union Canal Race within 34:00 hours for men or 35:00 hours for women.
l) Finish the Sakura Michi 250 km race within 36 hours.
m) Finish the Yamaguchi 100 Hagi-O-Kan Maranic 120 km within 12:00 hours for both men and women.
n) Have covered the distance of at least 280 km for men or 260 km for women in a 48-hour race.
RACES IN GREECE
a) Have completed a SPARTATHLON race within 36:00 hours.
b) The OLYMPIAN road Ancient Nemea-Olympia must have been completed within 27:00 hours for men and 28:00 hours for women.
c) Have completed the 215 km EUCHIDEIOS YPERATHLON within 33:00 hours for men or 34:00 hours for women.
d) Finish the “ROUT” RODOPI ADVENDURUN 100 miles race within 38:00 hours for men or 39:00 hours for women.
e) Finish the DOLICHOS 255 km within 42:00 hours for men or 43:00 hours for women.
g) Finish the VFUT PARANESTI 100-mile race within 32:00 hours for men or 33:00 hours for women.
h) Finish the race ROAD OF IMMORTALS 142 km. Within 17:00 hours for men or 18:00 hours for women.
i) Have completed the FROZEN PEAKS 261 km race. within 60:00 hours.
j) Have completed the 3ULTRA SUMMITS TIHIORACE 250km / 14000 D+ within 70 hours.
k) Have covered the distance of at least 120 km for men or 110 km for women in a 12-hour race.
l) Have completed a 120 km race. within 12 hours for both men and women.
m) Have completed a 100-mile race within 21:00 hours for men or 22:00 hours for women.
n) Have covered the distance of at least 180 km for men or 170 km for women in a 24-hour race.
o) Have completed a non-stop race of 200-220 km within 29:00 hours for men or 30:00 hours for women.
p) Have completed a non-stop race of more than 220 km within 36:00 hours for men or 37:00 hours for women.
g) Have covered the distance of at least 280 km for men or 260 km for women in a 48-hour race.
Athletes must have achieved the above CRITERIA within the years 2023, 2024 and 2025 (until 25/02/2025).
3. CHAPTER
PROOF OF ELIGIBILITY
The application form is accepted by the International SPARTATHLON Association only when the requirements/criteria of the previous Chapter have been met in an OFFICIAL non-stop race, the results of which have been published online, or on the website of the race organizer, or on another sports website, or on the website of DUV Statistics.
ATTENTION:
a) We do not accept individual certificates of organizer or measurement company, concerning intermediate (split) performance for a single Athlete. In order for a split performance to be accepted, it must have been officially published on the internet in a list that includes all Athletes who took part in the race.
b) In order for an Athlete’s performance to be accepted as a prerequisite for participation (criteria) in “SPARTATHLON”, it must have been achieved in a race where at least 5 (five) Athletes have finished.
c) Performances of races other than those recorded generally or nominally in Chapter 2 (Criteria) are not accepted participation in the race, even if these performances are more difficult to achieve through comparative calculations.
4. CHAPTER
DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION OF APPLICATIONS
The deadline for submission of applications is from January 25 to February 25, 2025
5. CHAPTER
ACCEPTANCE PROCEDURE
The athlete logs into her/his account and after having completed all his personal data, she/he completes the PARTICIPATION APPLICATION, by uploading an electronic document (word, txt, pdf, photo or other) that will indicate a link (link) to the website (site) where her/his performance has been published or to the DUV data page where his performance is mentioned.
After the end of the application period and following verification of the documents, if the TOTAL number of athletes who have achieved the CRITERIA does not exceed the number of 400, then they all become QUALIFIED. If the total exceeds 400 athletes, then:
a) Athletes who perform at least 25% better within one of the CRITERIA mentioned in chapter 2 will be AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIED.
GREEK ATHLETES who finish in the first places of the three Greek races of the 180+ km category is automatically qualified. More specifically: the first two GREEKS of the OLYMPIAN RACE Ancient Nemea-Ancient Olympia, the first GREEK of the EUCHIDIAN HYPERATHLON of Delphi-Plataies-Delphi, and the first GREEK of Dolichos Delphi-Olympia, provided, of course, that they have achieved one of the prerequisite criteria as defined in chapter 2.
The decision for automatic qualification to the NEXT SPARTATHLON of the first Greek and the first Greek of each year is still valid. The same applies to the first international Athlete.
b) Athletes who have already achieved at least 10 finishes in the past in SPARTATHLON races (veterans) will also be AUTOMATICALLY QUALIFIED (provided of course that they have achieved any of the prerequisite criteria in the years 2023, 2024, 2025).
c) If a country is represented by only one Athlete, he/she is automatically admitted without joining the raffle process, again, provided that he/she has achieved any of the PARTICIPATION CRITERIA mentioned in Chapter 2.
d) The rest of the Athletes will participate in a raffle to cover the remaining number of 400. Once the 400 participants have been selected, the raffle will continue in order to complete the waiting list.
Athletes, who in 2024 submitted an APPLICATION FORM, but were not drawn to participate, and remained in the Waiting List, will be in the raffle this year with a double lot.
The raffle will take place at a special meeting of the Board of Directors of “SPARTATHLON”, which will be held at the offices of the Association (7 Kodrou Street) in March 2025 on a day and time that will be announced on the Association’s Website.
Those who are not included in the PARTICIPANT LIST are entered to the WAITING LIST in the order in which they will be drawn during the raffle.
Athletes who were drawn but did not take part in a previous race for their own reasons are not entitled to double lots.
Athletes who completed an APPLICATION FORM and are not included in the PARTICIPANT LIST or the WAITING LIST, means that they have not been accepted to the race because they did not meet the criteria.
e) The Board of Directors of SPARTATHLON reserves the right to include in the race OUTSIDE the above procedure, a limited number of Athletes provided of course that they have achieved one of the participation criteria. All Athletes who are accepted will receive an electronic notification of acceptance, accompanied by the ENTRY FORM. The submission of the completed ENTRY FORM (“online submission”) together with a recent passport-type photograph, should be 15 May 2025 at the latest.
The same entry form must also be used to register – by 15 May 2025 – the accompanying supporters of the Athlete. The payment of the participation fee for the Athletes in SPARTATHLON must be paid no later than 10 June 2025.
f) When the Entry Form along with the entry fee and other supporting documents are submitted to “SPARTATHLON”, the Athlete’s name and Race Number will be published on the official Website of the Association (RESULTS-Participants). This shall confirm the Athlete’s participation in the race.
g) Any Athletes who fail to fulfil their obligations by June 10, 2025 (or any other date indicated to them) will be automatically deemed to be excluded from the race and their places will be replaced on a first come, first served basis by Athletes from the WAITING LIST until July 31, 2025. As for the Athlete’s supporters, the settlement of their financial obligation ends on 31 July 2025.
6. CHAPTER
PARTICIPATION FEE
a) ATHLETES
The participation fee for ALL Athletes is 450€.
Depending on the services provided, the following packages are available:
“SIMPLE PARTICIPATION” package 450€
Mandatory and only for Greek Athletes. permanently residing in Greece – if he DOES NOT wish to stay in a hotel room in Athens and Sparta. Participation in the Award Ceremony and insurance for accident and medical care.
“BASIC – SPARTA” package 600€ (450€ + 150€)
only for a Greek Athlete permanently residing in Greece – if the Athlete WISHES to be accommodated in Sparta in a hotel. Accommodation with full board in Sparta for 2 days (Sep. the 27th and 28th), participation in the award ceremony and insurance for accident and medical care.
“EXTRA” package 1250€ (450€ + 800€)
Mandatory for international Athletes.
Accommodation, meals and transportation to Athens for 4 days (Sep 25, 26, 29, 30) and to Sparta for 2 days (Sep 27, 28), as well as participation in the award ceremony and insurance for accident and medical care.
b) SUPPORTERS
The cost of participation per person of supporters, depending on the services provided, amounts to:
1) “SIMPLE PARTICIPATION” package 120€
for both Greek and international athletes that simply allows the attendance of the supporter in the race but without the participation of the supporter in the award ceremony. An extra cost of €40 for the participation of the accompanying person in the award ceremony.
2) “BASIC – SPARTA” package 600€ (450€ + 150€)
includes two overnights in Sparta with full board and transportation as well as the participation of the supporter in the award ceremony.
3) “EXTRA” package 1250€ (450€ + 800€)
includes full Accommodation, meals and transportation to Athens for 4 days (Sep 25, 26, 29, 30) and to Sparta for 2 days (Sep 27, 28), as well as participation in the award ceremony.

The athletes’ participation fee must be paid no later than 10 June 2025 and for the supporters until 31 July 2025.
7. CHAPTER
DISCLAIMER
The Organiser is not responsible for any health problem of the participant Athlete during the race. It is up to the participant to make sure that they are in good health. The participant is solely responsible for his equipment and personal belongings. The organiser is not responsible for any loss of valuables, clothing or equipment.
The organiser waives all liability for any damage that may occur, because a participant is hindered from participating in the race due to legal reasons Regulations or Government Orders.
It is recommended that participating athletes have insurance which includes the return to their place of residence in the event of an illness. SPARTATHLON provides insurance for accident and medical care during the duration of the race.
8. CHAPTER
DATA PROTECTION AND ITS USE
Participants accept that their personal data may be used by third parties for the purposes of time recording, list generation, and Results list, as well as publishing them on the Internet. The participant’s personal data submitted as part of the registration process will be stored and used for purposes related solely to the administration of the race, in particular with regard to the data necessary for the payment procedure. By submitting the registration form, the participant agrees that his/her data will be stored for this purpose. The participants agree and consent that the photos, date of birth, finish place (results), video material and interviews, made in connection with the race, may subsequently be broadcast and publicised on television, internet, radio, newspapers, printed matter, books and photo reproductions, without any financial claim by the participant.
9. CHAPTER
CANCELLATION OF THE RACE – INABILITY TO HOLD SPARTATHLON 2025
In the event of cancellation of the race or inability to commence the race due to force majeure over which the organisers have no control (such as bad weather conditions, strikes, road blockades, government bans, etc.), the participant has no right to claim the refund of the entry fee or proportional compensation for other expenses, such as travel or accommodation expenses.
10. CHAPTER
MEDICAL CERTIFICATE
A requirement for the participation of the Athlete in the race is the submission or presentation of a Medical Certificate before the start of the race. Athletes who have annual sports certification can send it along with the other documentations. Anyone who does not have one is requested to send us the medical certificate, which will have been issued after July 1, 2025 (the last quarter before the race).
For the Medical Certificate to be valid, it must contain the name and seal of the doctor, the date, and a declaration that the Athlete is fit to participate in “SPARTATHLON” 245 km distance race.
Any athlete without a medical certificate will NOT be permitted to participate in the race.
11. CHAPTER
CANCELLATIONS
In the event that the applicant’s participation is cancelled due to a serious and justifiable reason by June 20, 2025, 50% of the participation fee paid will be refunded, if the applicant cancels by July 31, 2025, 30% of this amount will be refunded, and after July 31, 2025 no refunds or credits will be given for the future.
12. CHAPTER
RESTRICTIONS
According to the statistics so far and in view of the large number of Athletes interested, the international SPARTATHLON Association limits Participations as follows:
Japan: 40, Germany: 30, Greece: 50, Other countries: up to 25.
Important: Individual Participation Applications from runners/ athletes from Japan and Germany will NOT be accepted. All interested parties should contact their local offices of “SPARTATHLON” (the addresses are listed in the ” Contact ” menu of our website).
