When me and my best friend (now an officer in the RAF) were 14, obsessed with sport as well as ancient civilisation, we talked about an iconic event that combined the two... whilst i never thought it possible, a seed was planted in my head. Having completed an Ironman in 2014, i decided my passion for endurance lay with the sports in their purest form. Since then, i have ran multiple ultras, including a 100k event in 2016 which, despite a negative split and sub-8min/mile finish, i missed the cut-off by one minute. Older (31), more experienced and wiser, I returned to the same event and finished strongly at an average of 7:40m/m for the last 5 to secure my eigibility for Sparta. As a follower of stoic teaching, I am embracing the psychological journey and mindset for success required for the task ahead (as well as juggling young fatherhood) - my firstborn son (runners name Seb) is a recent but huge motivating factor towards a finish - it would be an incredibly fitting tribute if i could compete, and complete this great event to set him a good example and pride in his dad, as well as fulfill my dream of over 10 years before I look to follow more domestic duties. I am also a running coach and compete in anything from 5k (16:52pb), cross country, trail running to 184 miles; i beleive good technique and form applies to all running and would love to prove this to myself on the adventure of a lifetime.
