He is still active in ultra-marathon and trail running races. He started long distance running since junior high school with 5000m/10000m events and won both champions in these 2 items in Taiwan National Game 1979. After years, Ho Shin Yen started to join marathon. In the oversea races, he won marathon champions in Penang 1986 in Malaysia, Kagoshima 1994-96 in Japan, and Songkhla 2001 in Thailand. In Taiwan, he also won the triple champions in the marathons of Taiwan National Game (1998, 1993, 1994) and Zengwen Reservoir Marathon (1986, 1988, 1992). Ho Shin Yen started his ultra-trail marathon life since 2011 and won the 100km champion of The North Face 100 Taiwan in the same year. In the same game in 2012, he also ran very good and won 2nd place (Taiwanese 1st place). With the good results, he was invited to join 2012 The North Face China – Great Wall and got 12th place. In the next few years, Ho Shin Yen developed his ultra-marathon life and also got good results. He won the 100km champion in 2014 Taiwan K.K. Flexpower Ultra Marathon Game and ran 234.3km in 24 hours with 2nd place in 2015 Herbalgy Hong Kong Ultra Marathon. The distance 234.3km is the Taiwan best 24-hours-record for men aged 55 to 60 years old so far.
