Amy Stratton Costa is an ultramarathoner, who currently lives in Jacksonville Florida.
Amy is married to Joe Costa, 23 years. They have three children, Micayla 21, Jordyn 19 and Josh 18.

Amy is the Assistant Director of Eco Adventures and the Osprey Challenge Course at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.
She has worked in the field of Outdoor Education for over 30 years; teaching rock climbing, camping, kayaking and promoting healthy lifestyles.

Amy started running ultra marthons in 2000. She has ran over 35 ultras predominatly 50 and 100 mile races. Amy has been ranked nationally since 2004, and in 2006 and 2007 ranked top 10 nationally for the fastest 100 and 50 mile times. In 2006 , she was also ranked top 10 in the world for the fastest 100 miler (8th) and 50 miler(9th).

She has won the MUT Mountain Ultra Trail award for the state of Florida four times. In 2013 Amy was invited to Badwater Ultra marathon in Death Valley where she placed 8th for women. In January of 2014, Amy ran Brazil 135, self supported,no crew, and placed 2nd women overall and 1st place women self supported and 2nd self supported overall runner and 22nd overall.
Amy was invited back to Badwater 135 in July 2014. Amy placed 13th overall . She took 8 hours off of her previous Badwater time.

Described as the world's most grueling race, the Spartathlon runs over rough tracks and muddy paths (often it rains during the race), crosses vineyards and olive groves, climbs steep hillsides and, most challenging of all, takes the runners on the 1,200 meter ascent and descent of Mount Parthenio in the dead of night.
This is the mountain, covered with rocks and bushes, on which it is said Pheidippides met the god Pan.

Spartathlon is the event that brings this deed to attention today by drawing a legend out of the depths of history. The idea for its creation is belongs to John Foden, a British RAF Wing Commander. As a lover of Greece and student of ancient Greek history, Foden stopped his reading of Herodotus' narration regarding Pheidippides, puzzled and wondering if a modern man could cover the distance from Athens to Sparta, i.e. 250 kms, within 36 hours.
